6 Antique Late Victorian Oak Pilasters | Lace
Less busy than the companion set of Cornucopia pilasters but still very fine and subtle carving.
This thin lacey woodwork was inspired by many of Grinling’s high profile commissions, displaying some of the techniques used to create Horace Walpole’s limewood cravat carved in 1690 and now on display at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. Walpole admired the work and as part of his collection of curiosities would wear the cravat to welcome visitors into his Twickenham home, Strawberry Hill.
